Day 7: Kandy’s Sacred Heritage

Stop in the hill capital for a night at the Cinnamon Citadel Kandy, nestled along the Mahaweli River.

• The City: Visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Sri Lanka’s most important Buddhist shrine.

• Atmosphere: Enjoy a peaceful walk around Kandy Lake at sunset as the evening chants begin.

Day 8: The Great Highland Train Journey

Travel from Kandy toward the mountain village of Ella on the famous blue train.

• The Experience: This is widely considered one of the most beautiful train rides in the world, winding through emerald tea plantations and mist-covered mountains.

• Travel Tip: We recommend booking tickets well in advance. For a shorter 3-4 hour experience, take the train from Nanu Oya; for the full 7-hour scenic immersion, depart directly from Kandy.

Days 9–11: Ella & The Tea Country

After your scenic train journey, settle into the relaxed mountain atmosphere of Ella.

• The Icon: Walk along the tracks to the Nine Arch Bridge to watch the morning train pass through the jungle.

• Hike: Take a gentle trek up Little Adam’s Peak for 360-degree views of the Ella Gap.

• Tea Heritage: Visit a local tea factory to learn how Ceylon tea is processed, from leaf to cup.

Days 12–16: East Coast Bliss (Trincomalee & Nilaveli)

Head to the northeast coast, where the seas are calm and turquoise during the summer months.

• The Beach: Relax on the white sands of Nilaveli Beach, known for its crystal-clear waters and peaceful vibe.

• Snorkel: Take a short boat ride to Pigeon Island National Park to snorkel with black-tip reef sharks and sea turtles.

Days 17–19: Safari & Southern Wilds

Travel south toward the edge of the dry zone for a final wildlife encounter.

• Safari: Choose between Yala National Park (famous for leopards) or Udawalawe National Park, which is home to over 250 wild elephants and a dedicated Elephant Transit Home.

• Experience: An early morning or late afternoon game drive offers the best lighting for photography and animal sightings.

Days 20–21: Galle Fort & The Voyage Home

End your journey in the historic 17th-century Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
